Safeguarding at Canary Wharf Primary, East Ferry is our highest priority. We are committed to ensuring that every child is safe, supported and able to thrive in a secure and caring environment.
We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We operate a culture where concerns are taken seriously, acted upon promptly and always considered in the best interests of the child. We follow a ‘it could happen here’ approach, ensuring that all concerns are listened to, recorded and responded to appropriately.
We work closely with families and external agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

What to do if you have a concern
If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child:
- Contact the school office and ask to speak to a member of the Safeguarding Team
- Share any information, no matter how small it may seem
- Do not delay reporting concerns
- In an emergency, contact the police or Children’s Social Care immediately
If a child is at immediate risk outside of school hours, contact the police or your local authority children’s social care service directly.
We take all concerns seriously and act in the best interests of the child. No concern is ever too small.
Our safeguarding approach
Safeguarding is embedded in everything we do at Canary Wharf Primary, East Ferry. We aim to create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where children feel listened to, valued and protected.
Our approach includes:
- A strong safeguarding culture where all staff understand their responsibility to keep children safe
- Robust systems for reporting, recording and responding to concerns
- Regular and ongoing safeguarding training for all staff
- Early identification of need and timely intervention and support for pupils and families
- Close partnership working with external agencies and services
- A curriculum and wider school culture that teaches children how to stay safe, including online safety
We also ensure that online safety is a key priority. Pupils are taught how to use technology safely and responsibly, and the school has appropriate filtering and monitoring systems in place to help protect children online.
We follow safe recruitment practices to ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children.
