Year 6

Year 6 provides opportunities for pupils to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills and apply their learning with increasing independence and accuracy across the curriculum.

Throughout the year, children develop:

During Year 6, children complete the national Key Stage 2 assessments (SATs).

Throughout the year, pupils are carefully supported to build confidence, secure key knowledge and develop the skills needed to achieve their full potential. We place great importance on maintaining wellbeing and ensuring children approach assessments in a calm, positive and supported way.

Alongside this, preparing for secondary school is a key focus of the year. Through transition activities, visits and discussions, pupils are supported to feel confident, excited and well prepared for the next stage of their education.

A key highlight of Year 6 is the visit to the Houses of Parliament.

Through workshops, guided tours and learning experiences linked to democracy and citizenship, pupils develop a deeper understanding of how laws are made, how decisions are taken and how individuals can contribute positively to society.

These experiences help children understand the importance of voice, responsibility and active participation in modern Britain.

The Year 6 residential visit to Wales Farm is one of the most significant and memorable experiences of primary school life.

This extended residential provides pupils with the opportunity to take part in a wide range of outdoor and adventurous activities designed to develop independence, resilience, teamwork and self-confidence.

Children are encouraged to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and take responsibility for themselves and others in a supportive environment away from home.

For many pupils, Wales Farm is a defining experience that strengthens friendships, builds confidence and supports their readiness for secondary school.

The final year at East Ferry is a time to celebrate achievement and create lasting memories.

Year 6 pupils take part in an end-of-year production and a range of celebration events that allow them to showcase their talents, reflect on their journey and celebrate their time at primary school with peers, staff and families.
