At Canary Wharf Primary, East Ferry, we are committed to ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to succeed.

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

We believe that all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, should have access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve well.

Our approach to inclusion

Inclusion begins with high-quality teaching in every classroom. Through quality first teaching, teachers adapt learning so that all pupils can access a broad and ambitious curriculum and make strong progress.

Where additional support is needed, we follow a graduated approach of assess, plan, do and review. This ensures that support is carefully matched to each child’s needs and is regularly reviewed in partnership with families.

Levels of support

Universal support

High-quality classroom teaching, clear routines and adaptive strategies that support all learners to succeed.

Targeted support

Small group interventions or short-term support focused on specific needs, helping pupils build key skills, confidence and independence.

Specialist support

Individualised provision for pupils with more complex needs, often delivered in partnership with external professionals and services.

Working in partnership with families

We place great importance on working closely with parents and carers. For pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans, we hold termly Co-Production Meetings where teachers, the SENDCo and families come together to review progress, agree next steps and ensure that learning plans are carefully shaped by shared understanding.

This ensures that provision is not only carefully planned, but genuinely co-produced with families and remains responsive over time.

We value parents’ knowledge of their child and maintain open, honest communication throughout their school journey.

Inclusion in school life

Pupils with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life. We recognise and celebrate progress in all its forms and ensure that every child experiences success that is meaningful and individual to them.

Our aim is that all pupils feel safe, supported and able to thrive, both academically and personally, and are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
