Year 5 is an important and exciting year in which children continue to develop their independence, confidence and resilience while taking on greater responsibility within the school community.
As pupils move into Upper Key Stage 2, they are encouraged to think more critically, challenge their ideas and deepen their understanding across the curriculum. Throughout the year, children build the knowledge, skills and character needed to prepare them successfully for Year 6 and the next stage of their education.

Vocabulary development is a key focus, supporting pupils to become confident, articulate and reflective readers who can engage with texts at a deeper level.
Children continue to take part in our reading challenge, where regular reading is celebrated and achievements are recognised throughout the year.

Residential experience – Flatford Mill
A key highlight of Year 5 is the residential visit to Flatford Mill.
This extended residential experience provides pupils with the opportunity to take part in outdoor learning and environmental studies in a rich natural setting. The experience is carefully designed to strengthen both curriculum learning and personal development.
